Crooked Shelves

I love learning new things and reading books

Boring sequels....

Rebel - Amy Tintera

Why is it that the first book of every series/trilogy/duology are not as good as the first one??

Of course there are exceptions, but Reboot was soooo good, I was expecting amazingness for its sequel Rebel. Don't get me wrong I'm liking the book it's just not meeting my expectations....

Hopefully it picks up...

Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Opposition - Jennifer L. Armentrout

As expected this book was amazing!!!!

Don't know how to talk about without spoiling so it's going to be a brief review...

It starts right where Origin left off and just keeps going... I feel like the characters have grown so much it's sad to see the story end. I love that it's in dual point of view so you get Daemon's insightful thoughts... as expected is all Katy, Katy, Kat, Kitten and  nothing but her, I loved it. Best part was all the references; the walking dead, the avengers, the olive garden, even twilight. All those current references and the fact that they're in the worst case scenario and Kat still thinks about books makes the book special.

Jennifer L. Armentrout is amazing at twisting her stories, just when you think you know where the story is heading she's like hahahaha gotcha and gives you the hilarious most amazing twists.

Overall it's not the best book that has ever been written but it's a wonderful quick read full of laughter and all kinds of emotions...

The Selection - Kiera Cass

This is a very controversial book to rate....

I loved the writing, it had me going from the beginning and Kiera Cass does an outstanding job at giving you an accurate picture of what's going on.

But I hate whiny protagonist that think they're no good for anybody! Ugh!!!! Get over it!

On the other hand I really really like Prince Maxon I feel like he's a character we're going to see develop and mature throughout this series.

I thought about giving it only three star but I found myself actually laughing out loud and really enjoying this book. So it deserves a solid 4 1/5 stars whoop whoop!!

I can't wait to read the end already! It's driving me crazy!!!!

Reading progress update: I've read 208 out of 327 pages.

The Selection - Kiera Cass

I'm getting a little annoyed with America....

Let's see how it goes......

The Distance Between Us

The Distance Between Us - Kasie West

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

Overall this book was great. I wanted a light quick read and that is exactly what I got. I really enjoyed this story, although at times it was frustrating to read; I found that I'm not a big fan of rich-boy-saves-poor-girl thing. Not that Xander saved Caymen in any way but still, it got annoying.

I gave it a 5/5 stars mainly because I really liked Caymen. I'm very sarcastic when talking to somebody; often people don't get my jokes or they might not find innuendos funny .... And as I was reading Caymen would say a retort similar to what I would've said. So that was awesome. If not for this I would've giving it a 3/5 stars.

The romance story is not much, but it had me smiling in parts. I liked that even though the richest guy in town was showing interest, Caymen never lost herself into him.

I guess that's everything. Again if you're looking for something light and contemporary go ahead and read it. But if you're looking for action and never-seen plots skip it.

Can a girl and a guy REALLY be friends???

Better off Friends - Elizabeth Eulberg

Loved it!

I thought the concept of the book was awesome. Can a guy and a girl really be friends? I really wanted this book to be what the tittle offered. But let's be realistic, writers want to give the readers what they think we want. If you want the unique ending to in a book I highly suggest you read Geek Charming by Robin Palmer (Trust me the movie got nothing on it).

I really, really wanted this book to end differently, and that's why I gave it 4/5 stars. Otherwise the book is phenomenal and the writing is great.

A nice contemporary about friendship and growing together in order to maintain those friends.

Sentinel

Sentinel - Jennifer L. Armentrout

Loved the ending to this series!!!!!

Ugh! It's over! :(

How to review the end of a series without spoiling it???!

I loved the nice twist at the end. I really thought that was going to be it and then BAM! you get the happy ending

Walking Disaster

Walking Disaster - Jamie McGuire Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire

This is a clingy-codependent disaster of a relationship! But as the title says it is somewhat beautiful and insightful to see what is going on Travis's mind from Beautiful Disaster
I really doubt there's a relationship like this out there... but I could be wrong
Sometimes it was kind of annoying to read all the whinny parts that makes Travis so Travis, but I prefer this side of the story than Abby's point of view.

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares - Rachel Cohn, David Levithan Amazing writing and a fast read which I appreciate.....

The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers

The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers - Lynn Weingarten I was so excited and surprise when I open my mailbox and found this ARC copy in it!! I was totally not expecting it!! But I was really bombed out that I couldn't write a review for them sooner...
For some reason I had some trouble getting through it…
It kinda sucked, because I’m one of those people that can’t just leave a book mid-way… if I star reading something I HAVE to finish it… I can’t stand not knowing the ending.
I wanted to like this book so much, and I had high hopes for it… but unfortunately I’d have to say it wasn’t one of the best books I’ve read. Though I really truly loved Wherever Nina Lies Which is also by Lynn Weingarten...
Although I didn’t love this book much, I did like Lucy the main character. I liked the way Lynn Weingarten wrote her maturing and growing as a character. I found Lucy a little too naïve at the beginning but when you get through the book you see her growing and finding herself.
I think the problem with this book was that I found the writing was a little too slow for my liking; and I felt the writing a little out of the YA department. The idea of the book was fantastic… when I red the synopsis I was excited because I hadn’t read anything like it...
But I don't think I'd read this book again...

My Life Next Door

My Life Next Door - Huntley Fitzpatrick I been waiting for something like this since Simone Elkeles's Chain Reaction came out!!
Loved this book!!!!!

Heaven

Heaven - Alexandra Adornetto LOVED IT!!!!!!
A little predictable, but who doesn't want a happy ending??

Just Listen

Just Listen - Sarah Dessen I can't even tell you how many times I've read this book! It's an amazing book... I love this book, it's well written and it has you turning page after page-wanting to get to the end...

Overview
"When Annabel, the youngest of three beautiful sisters, has a bitter falling out with her best friend—the popular and exciting Sophie—she suddenly finds herself isolated and friendless. but then she meets Owen—a loner, passionate about music and his weekly radio show, and always determined to tell the truth. And when they develop a friendship, Annabel is not only introduced to new music but is encouraged to listen to her own inner voice. with Owen's help, can Annabel find the courage to speak out about what exactly happened the night her friendship with Sophie came to a screeching halt?"

Annabel has to give the impression that she is perfect and that nothing affects her... she thinks that she can't afford to look not put together(I think part of this was her mother's fault)...

Sarah Dessen's books have always some kind of development in they're characters and this was no exception... Annabel grows so much in this book, by the end of the book you're going to be like who's this girl? is it the same book?... Sarah Dessen is so good at girl drama without the exaggeration of the drama... if that makes sense

Owen is a big help on Annabel's growth (Having dealt with his own issues in the past) Owen knows a little bit about letting go and kinda pushes Annabel to deal with her own ghosts... But she's a little too adamant... Besides having conflicts at school, she is also dealing with some issues at home... A part from all this going on she has trouble being honest... which Owen does not, he is honest to the core, knowing that lying or omitting the truth brings nothing good.

For all that's happening in Annabel's life she is drawn within herself to a point that only she can reach; when she realizes that she just has to listen to her inner conscious and to learned that being honest about herself, and everything else can bring her closure to all her problems.
We all need to Just Listen once in a while; sometimes to come to terms with somebody, or just to have some closure or compromise...

Overall this book is amazing, I recommend this book to anyone that likes a good romance-drama story kinda book. And that likes to Just Listen.... (or read)

Pivot Point

Pivot Point - Kasie West Why had I taken so long to read this??!
Amazing!!!

Time Between Us

Time Between Us - Tamara Ireland Stone Can't wait for the next one! Even more exciting that is from Bennett's POV!!!

Perfect Scoundrels

Perfect Scoundrels - Ally Carter Best book in the series!!!!
Ally Carter thinks of everything and anything! when you get to the end everything you've read falls into place....
This book was majestic from start to finish but just when you think everything is going to go to hell because you're 30 pages away from the end and you still don't see a solution or the amazing ending you've been waiting for and you're thinking you're going to have to wait another year for the next one because there's no way it can end there, Ally Carter goes and gives you that ending PLUS mind shattering awesomeness you weren't prepare for....
In all seriousness if you paid attention while reading you might've guess the ending but I you were slacking there's no way you could've known...
Carter made Kat a genius con artist I seriously love her... I didn't really like Hale in this book, but it made sense for him to act that way.... *and no we still don't know his name* **I kind of like it that way... Sort of like Doctor Who? Kinda deal...**
Anyways I might be exaggerating this book and you might read it and be like "was that chick serious?" But I absolutely loved it..... I haven't slept for like 40+ hours so my judgement might not be the best one out there.... But I do know that not one of the books that Ally Carter has written have ever disappointed me....

Perfect Scoundrels indeed... :D
